Hopefully it will be out of the shed soon, looking forward to having a clean up and getting some space back.
Have moved all the winch backwards, rear diff is now in, front pretty much in.Fitted new front springs.

Thinks to go to sort
Finish rebuilding winch
Get twin lockers fitted.
Test brakes
Driveshafts

Bit of an up date, I am hoping to have it out of the shed on Sunday so will take some better photos.
Just waiting on diff heads then I can start putting back together.
Have fitted 30mm wheel spacers now, this thing is wide and looks staunch

After some bloody late nights we got to the coast. I am really pleased with the way it's come out, gearing seems to be perfect and the big boosted 200tdi doesn't seem to be lacking in snot. Will lift rear another inch and era place front shocks. One of the issues I found were the brakes seem hard, almost like when your being towed you dont have much of a peddle, would this indicate a vacuum leak of some kind? There are afew other wee bits that need sorting but will do later Image

I thiught you would not many rangers out there getting set up like mine, probably should do a build thread

That lamdy has a good stance tho for the size tyres your running, low short and fat, but still gas good approach and departure angles, but i must ask soare tyre?

Bit of an up date, have done a couple of trips in it now but has been parked up for the last 2 months due to transfer case issue and not having any time to tinker with anything. Xmas is coming so perfect time to get some stuff done.
Once I had gear in the back it was sagging a lot , I have now fitted a pair of lifted 4" lifted 80 front springs in the back, time will tell if these flex like I want... I have my doubts but hey will see.
The front doesn't really flex so I am going to remove and only run one set of shocks in the front and will be fitting Superior Engineering Superflex arms.
Will be fitting a set of beadlock rims
Sorting a stereo
Fixing oil leaks
Getting some new battery's
Look into fitting rear mounted winch, I think I have room.

Cool build. Any updates? What ratios did you end up running?

I assume you used the donor axle arms rather than fit landrover arms to the other axles?

Cheers

cheers man. Truck has been out of action for 6months now, split with the wife so its now time to get back into working on it. Iv used factory safari arms in the front which have been moved forward slightly. Transfer case has been causing me afew issues and i was to lazy to pull out and rebuild so thanks to Jase ( ClassicCruiserSpares) he has tracked me down another one. These are from a v8 110 Defender and i believe these are as rare as rocking horse shit... Im running 4.1 diffs and the 36s, seems to have enough power at this stage. Flying out to aussy in an hour so will try and bring back a set of Superflex Arms on the plane.
will keep updates coming.

muddyplumber wrote:The debate on weither or not the truck I have is actually an ex camel truck came up again when I was selling some bits the other day,I have been told its not and have been told it is by various Landrover nuts.
It may have been a support vechical....possibly.
It maybe an old shell that someone tried turning back into a camel look a like over the years.
I realise it has got bits on it that arnt the real deal etc. I have pulled the winch out and everywhere you look it's Sandglow, all mounts and body panels.Did they make a 1990 3 door Discovery that came out factory in Sandglow that wasn't intended for the Camel Trophy?
I'm just really interested to find out its history, the fella I'm dealing with at the mo is from the UK and reckons he will have an answer for me soon. On another note,I havnt welded anything to the chassie so in theory it could be converted back to Landrover diffs in the future. But for now will continue with the build. Rich

I have some news for you

I sent your pics to a mate in the UK, he came back with

"65th anniversary model, a limited pre production as a camel trophy but were not used in the event in any way as the competition ones were all made LHD."

Technically impossible, its a 1990, the company has been around only since 1948.

Checkmate 8)
before 1978 L/R was a division of British leyland.

That green one is Pre production which also means it's older thye actual main production model. possibly by another year or two.

Hey nice Disco, just wondering where you got the rims from? I struggle to find rims with a proper offset in NZ.

They are not Land Rover diffs under that Disco.
