Rust Con
Rust Con
Looking for somethiung like this available in NZ:
http://www.superior-industries.com/products/aerosol-products/coatings/rust-con-500-rust-converter.html
Has to 'convert' / neutralize rust and act as a primer.
Also needs to be UV stable as I don't have an indoor workshop (well I do but it's full of fishing gear and other junk)
Planning on concentrating on smaller areas gradually, getting the rust sorted out then doing the primer/top coat in one big hit. So having a rust converter with a semi-permanent barrier would be fantastic.
Prefer liquid but spraycans would be OK just expensive.

Its better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt.

Re: Rust Con
That CRC stuff looks remarkably similar to some Loctite stuff I used to have.
Worked very well at attacking the rust on my old SJ413..

Re: Rust Con
Thanks, both those products look like they will do the job. I had some spray on stuff from Supercheap which left a coating but it washed off, was rubbish. Good to have some recommendations.
Yes obviously the bulk of it will be removed first. Want to make sure I kill it off properly for good.

Re: Rust Con
I used a spray paint style converter that acted as a primer/undercoat when doing some rust repairs and worked awesomely i will look for it in the garage after work

POR15
Nothing beats this stuff. It's not cheap but you can be confident it will work.

Thanks, I am pretty sure this is what my mate recommended but I forgot what it was called. Will give this a try.
Anyone used it and left it out in the rain?

Yeah I have read nothing but good things about the POR15 system.
Do they do a rust con though? I wasn't aware of that, only their primers & topcoats.
I would use this on my toys, but there is no supplier in Palmy afaik

I used the Bunnings stuff on my RRC, it might be ok in the rain after it has fully cured but it is water soluble so mine ran a bit (in the driveway with no doors on). Painted over it with one of the white knight epoxy enamels and it seems to be ok, only did it a few months ago though. Dont try and weld over it/near it though, the smoke is pretty toxic.

Got the CRC stuff in the end, will give it a crack at the weekend
