Nissan Safari LWB shortened an VG30DETT fitted.
Re: Nissan Safari LWB shortened an VG30DETT fitted.
Who needs the power button on ya auto wen ya can manualize it!
Been doing lots of think as to what effects it would have with all the solenoids in the nissan auto if you manualize it an unable to control things like the line pressure solenoid as it set up on a duty cycle for the auto ecu an overun solenoid for engine braking.
so thought bugger it, whats the worse can happen, i have a spare one or too.
so with lots of drawings an scribbles looking at ways i can wire it in to existing loom an with a flick of the switch i can choose either auto for town or manual for hills an events.
Yes there was a note pad beside bed for those night ya wake up thinking that might work.(must note that down)
After all this i wire it up to the wiring diag i drew(pritty much the same as the toyota ones with a couple of extra diodes for ecu to prevent back feed.) last night test drove. it works awesome.
flick the switch on the run an your in either manual or auto. good for the hills.

Re: Nissan Safari LWB shortened an VG30DETT fitted.
Now for more power!
have sent my spare ECU way to a crowed in Christchurch an they are putting a board into the factory ECU (nisstune i think) and that will allow them to remap an tune the ECU.
Also have some bigger injector with it which they have oversized to 600cc (factory 370cc)He said that for what i want to do this will be best. lost of fuel off the mark im guessing.
so once i have it all in an tuned will post results.

Re: Nissan Safari LWB shortened an VG30DETT fitted.
My nissan survived the dyno tunning after the NISTUNE tuneable ecu decided to work.
unfortunately it now feels like it make's much less power tru the range than before it hit the dyno. It used to rip into it an then start to pink around 10psi at which i had boost controoled to stop at.now no pinking at all boosting 15psi(and getting to it much faster than before) but absolutly GUTLES compared to before.
He had alot of trouble with detonation an intercooler wern't getting ride of the heat fast enough so the timming was reduce to save the engine from exploding.
i now have to get better cooling for intercoolers an engine before he can get lots more KW out of it.
Results were
peak power not sure wat rpm doesn't say. only has speed on the dyno
150kw peaked@140km
750Nm peaked@70km
200hp peaked @140km
and looks full boost (15psi) @65kms
all these readings are at the wheels.

now for cooling improvements to head back for more goodness.

hi there
just wondering how you then change gears when in the manual mode?
new to the auto world and wondering how if works
cheers

yes these engine certainly have a lot of pony's for the size motor with a few easy mods. i love it. pretty good to drive round on club trips an camping an not to hard on gas but wen ya need to play with the big boys ya just lay ya foot into it an man things get exciting.
I change the turbos to steel shaft ball bearing types, far more reliable.
And running 14psi now.
Im planing to one day get it to one of those guys like slashman or another guy i heard of Glen at "the Lab" heard hes good. an get it chipped an tuned better. it has a Bliz ecu on it now an thats cranked things up a bit also.
Took it on a fundraiser trip today well over 30 plus truck. she never missed a beat , guna have to get the air con hooked up, gets pretty hot in the back block wen ya have to keep ya windows up to keep the dust out.
good run for it to.
glenn suckling u talking about ??
yer he knows how to make a rb25 neo dett move in a nissan safari wiv mods like 480 horses
using a dual ballbearing turbo garret gtx, link g4 ecu ,760cc injecters, splitfire coils, bosch 044 fuel pump and a few other mods
he knws his stuff that guy
Re: Nissan Safari LWB shortened an VG30DETT fitted.
Glen just tuned my mates hilux on friday....It made lots at the wheels
So yeah he knows his shit.

Hi
its set up much the same as everyone has with the toyota's
so 1st in lever is first, second is second, drive is third an click the overdrive button in for 4th.i also have a lock up switch on the dash for open road cruising.
system works very well for off road as it will not change gears till you move the gear lever. an you don't get it kicking down wen you most need the engine torque.

i'm not sure of his last name just know him as glen from 'the Lab"
have spoken to him a few times. He doe's know his stuff indeed.
would be awesome to get results like that, but its a fine line before you have to spend the big buck for cromolly cv's an axles. it seem to like the taste on cv's an axles now.but are on the list to get.
hoping another guy i have spoken too, to get it tuned will get a better result.
mine is running nistue board in factory ecu an 740cc injector an now have air temp at a controlled level around 30-40degC. time for more ign timing an power.
also going to swap motors with one i know is good.not sure on history of motor that's in it.

going to have mine de tuned on the dyno in two wks so it runs on 95 petrol instead of 98 and above
only BP have it and its a pain to keep buying octane boost etc... and dont really trust it always
not always a BP around for 98 ,but 95 everywhere

theres a guy that you can contact through 300zx forums if hes till around does a wicked tune for all model of vg engine setups with factory ecus he done all 3 of mine were awsum
Re: Nissan Safari LWB shortened an VG30DETT fitted.
Though I better blow the dust off thread and update it a bit.
Here's some pictures of the truck in the snow, wish I had 4 chains rather than 2. back keeps sliding were ever it like. become a little scary that close to the edge. and my friends behind me couldn't get to were I was so decided to head back to a safer altitude. truck and all electrics still worked fine with no issues in this cold environment.

Re: Nissan Safari LWB shortened an VG30DETT fitted.
Was time to sort out a couple of issues I found the vg motors have and refresh engine. seems to be lots of good info out there on the net.
So I picked up a spare motor, ripped it to bits an went through it.
First was the water gallery's and the poor casting issue casing poor water flow to rear cyl's.Even more so in the 4x4 environment we play in. The loads seem to be much greater.
Next was the soft valves some motors had, so in went a new set.
Then just a good clean down an look over how strong Nissan made the bottom ends with one solid bearing cap assembly webbed together and oil squirter's for the piston cooling and hi flow oil pump.
I also played with some different exhaust ideas but space was limiting.
they say splitting the pipes helps prevent pulsing an turbulence on turbo spal up wen off /on throttle etc, worth a try I thought. Also time to fit pyros in with there.

Re: Nissan Safari LWB shortened an VG30DETT fitted.
While engine is now in and changed injectors again to one's we can control an tune more easier rather than to big an flooding it but still larger than factory.
I down loaded software so that me an my friend's can tune it our selves,
So I put lots of gauges in so as to be able to monitor what the ecu cant. which helps heaps.
My friend's are far more up to speed with this ecu tuning so my main part was to fuel it up an let them bugger off an tune (also play)it for a few hours at I time. wen they come back there faces said motor than words.(They do say each time we would like to do some more tuning, as its fun an the maps are getting betting an need fine tuning).very noticeable driving it after they do there magic.
BUT unfortunately second gear in the auto started to slip an then gave up completely.

Re: Nissan Safari LWB shortened an VG30DETT fitted.
Was time for a replacement trans to be built out of 300zx an safari auto.
Also a 2nd trans cooler fitted in to bonnet scoop to help control the temps. The 2nd cooler in the bonnet removed around 30degC off the temps all round so was happy with the effort.
Time will tell. this weekend i'll be towing a tandem trailer all the way to Queenstown and back with this truck, aprox 10hrs one way.
Queenstown winch comp
Watching only tho.

Nice build Craig. That's a busy engine bay!
Re: Nissan Safari LWB shortened an VG30DETT fitted.
Well there's been a few changes now with work an now farming an have so much more time for 4 wheeling. was told of a good jump on the farm an first time was fine but then decided to go faster an not a good result grrrrrrrr. but welded back up an back into action,
was fun at the time.
haven't done any more mods at this stage just trying to use it more for now.

How much is this thing shortened?
Did you cut a section out of the chassis? or just move the axles?
Cheers.

Started out a Lwb
So cut a section out to make it 107inch wheel base.
was looking for a good all rounder.

Cool.
Im thinking about cutting 7 or 8 inches out of mine. Got any pics of the fish plates etc where you joined it back together?

Theres a pic on first pg of my build were i joined it.
not much but it was just fwd of lower control arm mount were there
was a straight section in chassis. was simples est spot i thought
