Just bought a '90 SWB Safari, has Firestone RMT's 31x1050x15 fitted, anyway spotted rip in sidewall on one tyre, and sidewall bulge in another.
They are just about brand new, possibly only 1000k on them.
Have decided I don't like these tyres.
Anyway, dealer and I have come to a fair compromise, rather than replace the faulty tyres, I upgrade to muds and pay the diff.
Choice is Firestone ATX 23, or Bridgestone Dueler 673. No diff in price.
Intended use-mainly offroad.
Mud, gravel, sharp Cental Otago schist rocks.
What say you all?
Which ones should I go for?

I've run ATX 23's on my truck for quite a while. They get very good mileage and are quiet for a mud tyre on the open road. Off road, they only work well when let down below 20 PSI, which means you should run tubes, any higher than that and it feels like you are on an ice skating rink, below 20 psi they grip very well in almost everthing. They do how ever offer very little sideways grip. I've never had a puncture with them and they have had a lot of abuse and crap thrown at them. Mine are about half worn and are now not getting me the places I want to go so I've got a set of Simex ET's on order. I will be keeping the ATX's though for my every day tyres.
Cheers, Jeff.
