looking at a radio for the truck.
but also have a jet boat. dont really want to buy 2 radios.

sorry that was one on my watchlist.search ebay for baofeng and just check for free shipping .i have bought about 15 of ebay for between 48-52 bucks each nz from different suppliers .have had a couple "missing in transit" but ebay refunds me so i just keep ordering more

those are Ham radios you are looking at.
you need a license and call sign to operate them in NZ .
also they only go up to 400mhz transmit ,so won't operated on standard PRS channels of around 477mhz

my bad , they go up to 470mhz transmit . so still won't do PRS at 477mhz
but quite often these type of radios can receive out of band ie up to 520mhz.
as I said before , it is illegal to own one of these radios without a HAM radio license / callsign .
As the radio has the ability to transmit on restricted frequencies
technically you should not be able to import these , but we all know this stuff slips through .
you can be heavily fined and have the equipment confiscated if you are caught with it .
personally I brought a waterprof VHF marine transmitter after I dropped my handheld in the boat bilge.

they do the prs channels fine.its illegal to walk across the road as well
