I was thinking stainless tubing, gotta be cheaper than an airtech or safari snorkel. Plus the custom bling factor!

has any one had a snorkel custom made? if so how much? I was thinking an exhaust outlet would maybe do it? I know you can buy the tops for about 80$

If your going for the "bling" look just be aware that just about all exhust shops weld there stainless tube with mild steel mig wire.... your going to end up with rusty welds!
There was a post from "Supralux" some where around here, that said your looking about $170 to get an exhust tube breather + the cost of the cap

Autobend - ChCh
Have you tried Autobend in Christchurch? They do a good job of fabricating snorkels, etc. Worth a try anyway.

I feel your pain Dave!!!
I check my inner gaurd section seal every time i go out with the club.
Try a very healthy dose of Ados Galve bond.
Its hung together on mine for over six months.
You could try what i did on my terrano, get about a meter of that black rubber fexi air hose, the stuff with the steel spiral ribbing from your local engineering shop, run that all the way from the end of your snorkel right to the air box. Only two joints to seal, and being rubber, its easy to handle. I think i will do that ultimatly.

The catch is/was that making your own snorkel was indeed scimping.
So i opted to spend the $$ to get a proper one.
Now i'm not so sure.
I would see the airhose idea as being an improvement mod, not a scimp.
You would have to do that with your home built snorkel any way
I just saved the time and hassel associated with getting the external part of the snorkel sorted by buying one.
Interesting logic huh :pirat:
Pete.

Been there, tried that
Problem is, where the snorkel enters the guard just happens to be the narrowist gap to the inner guard.
I have the flexi-hose, but I just cant get the required bend out of it, as it just pulls itself off the snorkel.
I'm looking at a 90 degree bend turbo hose, but again, it will come down to the space between the guards.
The other option is cutting straight through the inner guard to where the radiator overflow is, and foward around the battery.
To be honest, if I'd known these snorkels were so crap, I'd gladly have spent the extra money a a decent one, because after all this shagging around, it'll probably end up costing the same.
If anyone wants 3" flexi hose, I have 1.5m for sale, cost $60, sell for $30.
