Hey guys I bit the bullet about a month a go a brought a trials truck for use in the bush been thrashing about in the mud at home lots of fun but have noticed it likes getting hot it has a 4.6 Rover in it ( I've herd theses things and heat dont mix ) so pulled the rad out to clean he mud out wasnt a heck of a lot the rad is rear mounted I drained the rad and got bugger all water out many couple of litres of water so pulled the pipe of the engine didn't get a lot out of that maby a couple of litres so leves me wondering where did my water go ?
It's in the garage so I can rule out leeks so I could only think of air locks so after lots of reading and searching old posts every one raved about craig davies elec water pump for better cooling and helps to get rid of air in a rear mounted situation witch brings me back to my question should i leve my thermostat in tack it out or leve it in and drill some holes in it to keep it with some flow all the time what are your experiences what works any hints to rid the air locks would well riceved
Thanks
Gareth

ditch the thermostate and use a thermo switch to turn the fans on at a warm temp ie 75/80d
dont control the water pump as the motor will heat up quick enough
dont put the pump on a dash switch as the only time you may want the pump off is when you are doing work shop maintenance, and then you can easily pull the fuse. dash switches can easily be turned off and then forgotten about until to late.

Why? Not saying you are wrong just curious as to how it will help?

Assuming you are using an inline pump, with the thermostat in place you cant run the pump all the time.

apart from the manufactures instruction saying to ditch the thermostate. i have found that when the thermotate is closed it puts the pump under a lot of load. and if the fans are controlling the temp then there is no need to keep the thermostate

Course you can, they are a simple impeller type pump and don't get stressed if they cant move the water far. Leave the stat in, running it too cold will do more harm than good. 90% of engine wear occurs when cold. Yes I read the Davies Craig install guide but they are aimed at highly tuned race track stuff. They would like you to spend another couple of hundy on the speed controller to keep the stat. Mines been faultless (cooling system anyway!) for the last year with stat in and pump running all the time.
May the force be with you.
Re: Craig Davies water pump run thomostat or not ?
These pumps have a sensor unit that comes with them. There is no need to keep the thermostat as the DC control box sorts out when to turn the pump on and off. It also controls the thermo fan .

Ok I should have mentioned I brought the controller as well was thinking of setting it to turn the Han and pump on at 75 degreas ?

Personally i would have the pump on well before then as the sudden flow of cold water may shock the engine.

To help everyone with context.
You can buy the pump with or with out the controller.
The information from Team Tonka is for if you do not have the controller.
If you do use the controller, then definitely ditch the thermostat because the controller is now the thermostat. Ie the controller changes the flow of water to maintain a selected engine temp. No point having two systems fighting each other trying to control engine temp.
Hope that clears up the good good snippets of info in this thread.
