lock right auto locker
have had a lock-right auto locker (richmond) in my v8 lux for over a year now..out of the blue its started unlocking under accelerating i think. A mighty snapping sound comes from the rear diff .it used to when new make a quieter snapping sound when it unloaded after turning a corner, which hasnt been heard aging for ages.im assuming a spring/pin has gone byebye any similar instances or ideas guys and gays

Re: lock right auto locker
yeah mate pull it out and have a look its not uncommon to have problems with the pins and springs, there pretty simple to repair you don't have to pull the diff apart and get it set up again

Hi Grant,
Sorry about that, have been out and about, don't have any spare set as such but can take a set out of a locker if you need some as I have got some coming, $30 incl post.
Cheers

Re: lock right auto locker
i would pull the diff out and have a closer look.
by design they can't unlock under accelerating unless teeth are broken. but it may be getting hung up on broken pins till it gets enough force to lock it.
i know of a few v8 surfs that tend to chew diffs out. you could have other diff problems as well.

Re: lock right auto locker
i have seen a few broken ones in my time with the locking teeth rounded off usually the 2 pinion types havent seen a 4 pinion do it, had a mate swap the gears around so that the rev side was the drive side and it worked ok for a short while then did the same
