Motorcycle Carbs on 1300 suzuki 4WD engine

Post by seb.mann@outlook.com »

Hey guys I have brought an off-road buggy with a Suzuki 1300 engine (what I was told), and was told I could rig a single carb onto each cylinder, with a bit of fabrication. I would love to know if there is anybody that has any experience of this, Thanks.

you can but i suggest using a twin carb set up from two 600cc quad bike engines.

why you ask?

well firstly i used to have a torana with 303 and triple down draft webbers and the ole man had a fairlane 351 with twin holleys and they were hard enough to set up and tune let alone get them working together

. the less carbs the easier to set up and tune.

secondly (for example) 2 carbs from a couple of suzuki king quad 600-700cc or honda foremans would be a good match to the capacity of your engine. you only have to make matching ports to bolt them on as they are already set up.

just my 2 cents.

the other thing is quad or muilti carbs is usually setup for high rpm. so loose low rpm and the engine may not rev high enough to take advantage of it.
also pays to the exhaust tuning to match intake tuning.

i would go efi. it will be easier to tune than multipliable carbs and you can have single throttle valve which is a whole lot easier than setup up multiple and more suited to the lower rev engine.

A multi carb set up from a four cylinder road bike would be perfect, the throttle plates are already linked together with simple adjustments for synchronization, the tricky part would be the spacing between the manifolds and might require an adapter and correct jetting can be a headache

Atv carbs wont flow nearly enough, and good luck trying to find a twin carb setup from one, most are single cylinder and even most v-twins are single carb/throttle body

I was implying that one should create a twin carb setup using king quad carbs.... and yes they can provide plenty of fuel for the intended engine capacity.

You'll need to regulate the fuel delivery well to stop the carbs flooding.
I did a manifold for a fella years ago who was putting gsxr1100 (think thats what they were :? ) quad carbs on a 4age. Went like stink to be honest...... until it burnt to the ground

Large capacity Kingquads are fuel injected

Two 500cc carbs would be the easiest to get your hands on, but they're just not enough for the size of the engine and would be a pain to balance, multi carbs off a big bore road bike will by far be the easiest option, and CV carbs with a conservative intake (decent airbox and manifold, not ridiculous pod filters on each carb) and not overjetting them, they'll still pull ok'ish at low revs

quads off a late model 600 will do most stuff up to 2litre. prolly a bit on the big side for a 1300 but it'll just not go so well at lower rpm - just rev it more

carbs from quads will be pretty small/yuck.

there's a place in the uk (Bogg Bros) that specialises in bike carb conversions and everyone's into them over there so there's lots of info on pommy forums.

whack them on. drill the jets with decimal drills for more rich. they should be pretty closely balanced if nobody has mucked with them. piece of piss. do your research but from memory, you can use some weber main jets in yamaha r1 600cc carbs.

edit: a quick google told me that guys with sj413s/samurais like to use suzuki gsxr600 carbs which is probably the same engine as you've got

Gsxr. Google geckocycles. Spacing is right for 1300.

As cool as Quads are and assuming its a G13A . Its a waste of time with that engine.
you wont see any more gains than from a cam / exhaust & SU or Weber
the limitation is the head design and valve sizes.

better to get a G13B DOHC instead . Plane and Turbo
LR110 ..... LJ50 project
