Painting bull bar and scrub bars advice

Post by hamishh »

Howdy. Just after some advice on what works better in regards to re painting my bull bar once sandblasted. How effective is powder coating? Do I use like a rust thing underneath or just straight top coat? Or does a simple spray do the same? Also the scrub bars are galvanised steel.
Thanks

Really you want to remove everything back to metal. Sand blastings ideal but sandpaper and a wire brush on a grinder works well too.
If you want it to last I'd prime then top coat with enamel. If your painting it with spray bombs then crc black zink it is pretty good.

+1 for black zinc if you actually use your bars for rubbing up against things.

Most trips out I'll rub the paint off, then while the steel is clean, I give the bars a quick spray of black zinc. No real prep work needed cos it happens so often.

Haha I'm experiencing the hardships of paint sticking to my galv bars.. I just use the zinc paint to touch it up once in awhile
