Open question

Post by timmay556 »

So I currently have a TD42 LWB Turbo that's mint as and I want to keep - and use as a tow wagon.
I really want to get into 4wd'in with the mates but I don't want to smash up my current wagon.

I have two options so far:
Look at a samurai with an a-frame that I can town behind and can thrash while not caring about it.
look at a Safari/Patrol SWB that I might need to car trailer - much more expensive.

There are a few Samurais on TM for about the 4-5k mark which is the upper limit of what i would like to spend

Is the Samurai under powered on 32's with its 1300? Will I be ok with just a front auto locker?

or should I just go safari/patrol swb and lump up the cash but then have to piss around with wof/rego etc etc

Open to other suggestions but I'm only looking at solid front and rear axles.

Get a SJ413 ( model before the Samurai ) cheaper and more of them out there. Pick one up for 2k and find another one
for 500-700 for a parts truck. Modify for 1500 ( shocks, springs etc ) , run 30"muds-not to aggressive , weld up the rear. Chuck in a cage ( they pop up on t/me
from time to time ) Suzi steel in thin, a cage is a must. Get some transfer reduction gears or a SJ410 transfer case and
the 1300 will be fine.

Men do not quit playing because they get old.
They grow old because they quit playing.
