1KZ Coolant Bung In Head

Post by mudbugga »

I'm fitting a coolant temp sensor (Auberins) to a mates KZJ95 Prado and thought of using the bung in the head to fit the sensor instead of a top hose adapter.
On the Surf's this port is used for a coolant hose to the throttle body, but on the Prado's it's blanked off with a bung.
Seems to have a tapered thread. Unusual size though. I don't have a pitch gauge at work to try.
Anyone know what the thread is?
Anyone used this coolant port before as a sensor placement?

The sensor that comes with the gauge that has been ordered is 1/8" NPT. Unsure if that is same size??? Thread seems a lot finer on the sensor in pics.
Maybe need an adapter???

I too doubt it would be BSP .
Japs don't use British Standard Pipe Thread.

My TD42 has factory BSP fittings in the block.

Thread pitch also not metric 1, 1.25, or 1.5
Seems in between 1.25 and 1.5 though.

if you take your bung down to enzed or one of those hose fitting places they should be able to match it up for you and probably sell you the fitting you need for your gauge :D

Yup, that's the plan now.
If nothing available off the shelf, we should be able to make something up.
Going to wait for the sensor to arrive before we get too carried away, just in case.

Oil pressure sender and other plugs on my 3B are 1/8BSP.

Weird maybe, but the 1/8BSP thread is common in Toyotas.

From trying to find sensors for various projects 1/8BSP is the most popular, real PITA sometimes

BSP is usually universally used for oil fittings.
The coolant side of things is all over the place.

We may be able to drill and tap the bung. Will see when the sensor arrives and go from there.

Local hydraulic supply store had a off the shelf adapter just perfect for the job.
