1080 has been dropped extensively in nz for around 50 years. While the size and toxicity of the baits has been changed the controversy over the use of this poison has not. 1080 was originally developed as an insecticide in the usa so the argument that it targets mammals is not true. Scientists that work for DOC and landcare are well aware that anyone who speaks out against 1080 dosnt have a job for long. The EPAs assessment of the effects of 1080 are based on this work that is simply bought science. 50 years of use has not eradicated the pests it is supposed to target. Anyone who has observed an animal dying from 1080 poisoning would certainly have reservations about using it. With DOCand the AHB it is out of sight out of mind . The fact that the westcoast regional council did not notify the public of their investment in the poison facory shows they had something to hide. Ihope that the people of Rolleston are successful in stopping this factory in their town.
As to the disposal of carcases Iwould take them to the local DOC office but be carefull handling them especially if you have a dog around. A bag of poison pellets picked up on a local road was placed on doorstep of the local DOC office and the whole place was closed down for safety reasons.

Hi,

I saw this: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid ... =1&theater

I started looking for the film mentioned.

I found it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yQRuOj96CRs

It certainly seems the true extent of what this stuff is doing is well under reported or observed.

I am afraid to say I must have been living in a vacuum if this is really what is going on these days.

J_Dub wrote:I think the planned drop for Hunua next winter is estimated to cost a bit over $500,000.

That's 10 incomes for a whole year that could be payed out for full time trappers and hunters, 10 hunters could easily cover the hunuas 10 times over each in a year

thats 100k for the chopper and poison and 400k for "administration costs"... yea salary's of the fat pricks that get their backs scratched for buying the shit.
If you already know everything, DON'T ask bloody questions!!
