Front left brake locking up all on its own !

Post by Weeds »

Went out for a play on the weekend and the front left brake locked a couple of times all by its self it locks up solid smoked brand new pads quick smart the only way to release it is push the fiddle brake real hard and it seams to release it it's like the fiddling brake is coming on all by its self.

Any ideas ??

Are the levers flopping around a bit ?

If you ease on the brake pedal to make the wheel brake levers sit back, does the brake unlock ?

Maybe a spring system to keep the levers up until they are pulled if it is indeed the lever thats causing the issue

Although if its locking it that hard then it sounds lime a valving or cylinder issue or calipers ;-)

I had an issue with mine not releasing as the lever wasn't returning all the way and the valve inside the master cylinder remained closed. Ive also had them seize on me if it sits for long periods.

sounds like Skid said.. its floppy.
Dont follow me. i'll get stuck and need a tow..

Yeah sounds like the fiddle master cylinders aren't returning to their off position and allowing the fluid to pasd back through them.

Thanks had a good read of that my problems seam a bit different I will check the leavers to night skid they don't seam to be overly sloppy im guessing that its the piston on the fiddle lever not returning locking it up but both times it has happened no one has pulled the lever all 4 brake calapiers have been overhauled to as new all new parts etc. just cant figure out why it would happen on its own

the pushrod going into the fiddle master cylinder should have threaded adjustment (should :D ) make sure theres some pushrod freeplay when the fiddle lever is pushed hard back or the piston may not be seating back properly keeping residual pressure in the circuit down to the calliper :D

Also make sure you keep using them regularly things tend to seize up a bit if they sit for a long time and dont get used :D
