EGT Gauge Not Working

Post by 3DrDisco »

Just brought a Discovery with a 200tdi. The previous owner had installed a Boost gauge and EGT gauge. The boost gauge works fine, but the EGT gauge is not and apparently it has never worked.

On start up it rotates 270 degrees on the dial which is apparently to calibrate, and then sits back down on 2 (which is the lowest point) I pulled the probe out and there doesn't seem to be a problem there, not that I really have much of an idea what I'm looking at, the heat shielded wire seems to be in good, like new condition. I removed the gauge from it's housing, it has 3 buttons on the back, one is to change light colour, One to set Warning light for high Temp and the other to adjust Peak Temp I think it was.

The brand of the unit is Pro+ or Pro Plus. I haven't been able to find an online manual so I'm a bit in the dark about what to look for next. Does anyone here have any ideas? Or know of somewhere in Christchurch/Rangiora that might be able to help me sort it out.

Cheers

check the wiring on the sensor. some of them use weird color wiring which dosn't always match the gauge wiring. try connecting the sensor wires the other way around.
also try heating the sensor tip with a gas torch and see if it reads.

where is the egt sensor fitted?
if its fitted after the turbo its not going to read much if the gauge starts at 200c. chuck it out and fit a decent gauge that starts at 0c.

If you go for a new gauge, I seriously recommend an Auberins
