Discovery on TM
Re: Discovery on TM
Looks to be be well looked after and with a complete service history it seems like it is fairly priced (though I'd still try and knock them down a bit). IMO though, I wouldn't be looking at an auto or at least take it for a drive and see how it goes/you feel about it before you buy. Friends of mine have had 300tdi with the auto's and complained about them being quite sluggish compared to a manual version.
Re: Discovery on TM
no engine bay or underneath pics.
At those Kms it will most likely need bottom end bearing shells done . Check the hot idle oil pressure
Timing Belt etc is proborbly due too .
not sure what year the change over happened with the Discovery , but personally I would go for a non ECU Tdi every time . The less Lucus electrics the better .

As the wife says, "it's red and red goes faster ................."
Being red means it stands out more from the usual green colours of that era.
It says NZ new so will have mechanical injector pump (no ECU). Actually first registered in NZ May 1996.
Overall the Discovery is great value for money and is certainly very capable off road.
The engines are very robust if serviced regularly and are known for easily doing 400k plus before needing any major work, including bearings.
Rear crank seal has tendency to leak on some.
Its an 18 year old vehicle so check carefully for rust in front floor sill, rear wheel arch just inside rear doors and also the alpine roof windows.
Check for saggy roof lining and signs that the sun roof seals are leaking (may not be but check roof lining for visible signs.
On that vehicle it looks OK for mileage but leather starting to come apart at stitching on passengers seat. Rear tail door storage pocket is broken.
Front left headlight washer missing which does tend to indicate a minor collision and possible repair.
Failed its last WoF back in May and is due again in a couple of weeks. Rego is also due again very soon.
If you were to buy it budget in a cambelt change, full service including gearbox with new gearbox filter etc.
but seriously I have suspicions re the dealer selling it. I wouldn't at all be surprised that if you rung up about it, then it will have been sold or price is incorrect.
He doesn't appear to have a retail yard you can visit, but I could be wrong.
Re: Discovery on TM
from what I have picked up ALL NZ auto discos came with EDC pump not mech pump.. good luck finding one .. I have just managed to find a mech pump for mine and goes mean.. and no more electric problems any more..
Re: Discovery on TM
I have a good 300tdi injector pump from a Defender(non EDC), done 150,000ks and going fine if you need it
Can even tell ya how to adjust it for extra grunt

Another dealer selling without "in trade" membership. Who are they trying to kid?
How hard can it be?
Re: Discovery on TM
Original classified list expired and now relisted as $1 reserve auction.

Be interesting to see what price bidding goes up to and if 'highest' bidder actually goes through with the sale.
