Post by y60 safari driver »

hi all, did a compression test in the weekend and got some very sad results, wondering if anyone has found an overhaul kit for these motors? if so where from and how much?

cheers

1500nz dollars for the whole nine yards, new pistons, liners etc

that was ebay a little while ago, then still had to get old liners removed new ones pressed in etc.....
the liners a part finished so still require honing to suit your desired ring tolerance.

or are you thinking just rings bearings etc
Waiter...there is a drought in my glass.

Hi,

I have quite a lot of experience rebuilding diesel engines with semi finished liners gathered when doing my apprenticeship.

To remove any meaningful amounts of metal and keep good shape the bulk of the honing should be done by a fixed stone hone ( two stones and two guides) Finish with a deglazing one to get a good cross hatch.

We used to measure the pistons and then measure the bores once the liners were in. The idea being to match the pistons to liners where the least amount of honing was required.

It is the piston clearance that you are adjusting with honing, the rings can be filed to suit the required gap.

Thank NZMC and AEC ( New Zealand Motor Corporation and Associated Equipment Company) for the foregoing having burnt it into my mind all those years ago.
