WTD: FJ40 xfer case bits and rear diff possib(mint prefered)

Post by williamhamilton »

Hi guys, we have a customer with a totally mint FJ40 ('77) and we are rebuilding a lot of the running gear.

Looking for an in great condition idler gear and shaft from the transfer case - current one's hardening has worn off and gear has a bunch of corrosion from bad storage.

May also be looking at a rear diff as the current one sounds like a bunch of shite!

It is important the the parts are in great condition as this is a special vehicle :) I would prefer to buy from someone here rather than head to Oz and US and new parts

thanks in advance all.

cheers

I've got a bunch of bits leftover after the rebuild & re-gear of my 1991 LJ71 t-case. All the gears & the old idler shaft which look to be in good condition, plus a brand new idler shaft, idler bearings & thrust washers left over from the Terrain Tamer rebuild kit (my Mark's adapters gear set came with a modified idler shaft setup)

I know there were a few minor variations on the cruiser t-cases over the years so you'd want to research compatibility, but shoot me a PM if any of it will work for you.

Cheers

If it breaks, build it stronger.
If it doesn't break, drive it harder.

Clint I could be keen on your transfer case parts if they aren't needed, My old case kept throwing itself out of low box so your bits may help with a rebuild.

you want to grab one of those transfer rebuild kits from terrain tamer they aren't very dear, new bearings (jap :D ), seals, gaskets, idler pin, thrust washers and all that shit, idler gear wont be in their kit but they may stock them they make and supply a few gears :D

Hi Derk, seals, bearings are all easy to sort out the gear and shaft less so. :)

early rebuild kit $214 AUD all bearings seals gaskets, idler shaft and thrust washers ex aussie, type your credit card number in and its all on your door step in a week allfourx4 is quick and easy to deal with, onlineautoparts in Oz probably have them as well and also good prices and easy to deal with I didn't bother looking at their site :D , would be surprised if terrain tamer didn't have the kits for the early transfer cases available over here as well , all that leaves you is finding a secondhand 40 year old worn out replacement idler gear :D if your customer was clever he would get rid of that flogged out old transfer case and throw a later split case on it its hardly going to devalue his mint 1977 fj40 :D
