Leaking injector pump

Post by Zacx »

Hi,
So i have a 92 Hilux LN106 with a 3L in it. Just went for a WOF and failed on leaking diesel (bad) so says the sheet and he showed me the injector pump, now i have narrowed it down to a drip coming from the timer cover at the bottom of the pump, i took that off and saw the o ring was cracked so i have replaced it with a o ring from Seal Import LTD which is the slightest smaller but I'm guessing once compressed with the cover it'll be bout the same ( please tell me if I'm wrong I'm no mechanic). So the thing is its still leaking I'm sure its slower but not certain, are there torque settings for these bolts or have i just not tightened them tight enough or was i ment to replace something else aswell? Another idea i had was to put gasket sealant on the outside of the o ring but again i have no clue any help will be much appreciated.

Thanks
Zac

Ordinary sealant wont seal fuel, I suggest getting the right o-ring from Toyota or a diesel specialist, torque shouldnt matter just tighten down evenly and make sure you dont pinch the new seal

However if one o-ring is perished I guarantee the rest will be too, so this will only be a short term fix before the next leak as the fuel will now just find the next easiest path. It will eventually start (if not already) sucking in engine oil or pushing diesel into the engine

Not trying to scare you  but if the trucks a keeper id be thinking about getting the pump recond or at least a seal kit

Thats my coupla 3 cents anyway, welcome to the forum :D

A recon will happen but moneys the issue there at this point in time haha . Know anyone who could do this cheaper than the shops ?? Are the kits you buy online anygood ?

+1, use the correct o-ring. They're a special fitment size.

Won't on a L series- pump is cambelt driven. It'll suck air in making it run badly instead.

As above it needs the correct o-ring, but heres some useless info anyway... Blue Hylomar was developed by Roll Royce for their aircraft engines, and apparently only by coincidence it happens to be fuel resistant, and is widely used in motorsport. Its pretty handy stuff to have in your toolbox as a last resort
