Hi,
As per title thinking about replacing my manual with auto in my bush / winch truck.
Reason being to make it easier match wheel speed to winch speed and not having to use the clutch lots when you get a bit of traction.
Current transmission is V5MT1.
What options do I have for changing to auto, can I use my existing transfer box. Are some better than others in terms of strength, can they be easily manualised.
Does anyone have one in good condition that they are willing to part with for not too much money.
Based in Hamilton.
Thank you
Cheers
Tim

Standard 3.0 auto is fine, but be sure to fit a decent oil cooler and extend the breather. You'll need the auto transfer case. Auto box is longer so you'll need to swap out both drive shafts and the centre cross member. The hole in the trans tunnel is different too, so a bit of cutting here. You'll need the auto centre console, and there are a couple of safety interlock cables to connect to the brake pedal and ignition. The wiring is different so something else to do.

Thanks for the reply,
When you say can't be manualised, presume that is because it is a hydraulic valve body, and also presume can select each gear with gear lever like I can with my 80 Series landcruiser that has a hydraulic valve body.
Do you know how much longer they are than manual.
Have also read that the V4AW2 is same / similar to the Aisin A340
Cheers

Yep, hydraulic valve body, and yep you can lock them in 1 or 2 but for some reason if you try and manual shift there is a delay between gears. They are an Aisin box but can't remember model no. About 100mm longer I think. Been a while since I meddled with one so don't quote me on that. The 3.5 auto would mate to your motor too, but that's longer still. That's an Aisin 43LE I think and is a much stronger box with shifting electronically controlled so could probably be manualised to some degree. This one has a locking torque converter too.
