Body swap and compliance

Post by Ant »

Mate of mine has a rusty cab on his Hilux and has found a good replacement cab of exactly the same model, so easy swap. But how do we go about swapping the VIN plate on the firewall the legal way?? Is it as simple as just changing the plates?? I seem to remember there was a right and wrong way.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thought I had seen a similar post a while ago but cannot find it.
And have rung around quite a few places, VTNZ puts me onto certifiers, they put me onto LTSA, they put me onto someone else and they put me back to VTNZ. Seems like this has never ever been done. and no one wants to give me a definite answer.

Its been done lots of times. Not by me personally tho. Remember something about getting the coppers to do a report on the donner body to confirm that its not stolen etc. cant see why lvvta cert is required as every thing is oe. Id talk to somebody that does vech compliance

Hey i did a Body swap once and it was all havdled by our local VTNZ through LTSA no cert is required if it is the same cab. the process just makes the body and chassie numbers talk to each other in there system.
On another note what type of hilux cab is it and how rusty??? could be keen

Thanks for th info. Its a cab and a half 2wd 1992. Has rust around the rear windows and a hole in the sill about 100mm long. I will have a chat to my mate and let you know when it is available if you still want it
