Hi guys, I've been struggling to figure out why I can't remove the gearbox from my 1990 4-door TD-27 Terrano.
So far the torsion bars have been removed, both cross members have been taken out, the front and rear drive shafts have been removed, the bell housing bolts have been taken out and the starter motor removed. Also all the wiring has been unplugged.
When trying to lower the gearbox off the engine, the bell housing was stuck together and there was no movement whats so ever.
Does anyone have any experience with a similar problem?
Any advice would be much appreciated as we are out of ideas.
Cheers.

not sure on nissan but toyotas have an access panel at bottom of bellhousing to get in and undo them. thats looking from under the engine towards the gearbox. undo 1 bolt, spin motor, undo next and so on prob 6 or so. some cars you have to undo them through the stater motor hole but im unsure on terranos

Re: Nissan Terrano Auto Transmission Swap
double check all the bolts are out, from memory there are 17 including the starter motor bolts and the two location dowels
irregardless of the torque converter being unbolted from the flex plate, it should slide off the input shaft allowing the transmission to part from the engine. it will just be messy,as the trans fluid goes everywhere.
you may need to get a bar or some large flat head screw drivers and give them a wiggle where you can as the dowels that locate the bell housing to the engine maybe corroded and is what is holding the two together.

Undo the torque converter from the flexi plate... And take off the box and converter in one bit..If you try and remove it without you run the risk of damaging the seal or shaft in the gear box if it drops out on an angle...
You will need to install it later with the torque converter already in the auto...So might as well find out how to access the flexi plate bolts now...
