Factory Toyota PTO Winch
Hey guys
What is one of these worth?
Not sure yet of the rating but will find out.
Any issues that these have?
Can you fit one to a KZJ-71 Prado (93). Mine is a manual
Cheers John

they sit around the $500 mark on Trademe.... I got mine for $350 but I've seen them go for close to the grand
As Bill pionted out your going to need the... PTO transfer case output (add another $200 - $400 off trademe) and for the Prado they arn't common
so don't expect to find one in a hurry
The shafts but you should get those with the winch or PTO
Then your going to need a new bumper to mount this... your looking anything from $200 up depending on how flash and the lable stuck on it
Just on a side note I got asked to find a unit for an 80series a while back $1200 to $1800 at the wreakers
but came complete
Cheers Reece

Winch complete from output from Transfercase. Still working on vehicle, a manual 1983 BJ60.
Is the PTO output from this likely to mount onto my transfercase?
If I dont have the gear will the gear from this Transfercase fit into mine?
Can I remove the Tranfercase plate from mine without dropping out the oil?
Thanks for your replys

Hey John, the best way to find out is to get under you Prado and measure the distance between the bolts then compare to the PTO box from the 60 series. Here is an example of the one Wopass did for his FJ40:

Nah man, if you take that plate off you gonna get covered in oil.
Also need to consider if length of the drive shaft is right size? is there a clear path to where you are going to mount the winch? You happy to cut a hole in the tub for the pto gear stick?
While I think PTO winches are way better than electric (Faster and more power) an electric winch is alot less hasel to install.
Hope that helps.

Thanks for that.
Prado chassis has a clearance curve in the front crossmember for the driveshaft and altering driveshaft lengths is no issue for me.
Can anyone else tell me any more info?
I want to find out as much as I can before I spend lots of dollars!!!

Have just pulled off the PTO plate on the transfercase, and sadly no gear inside.
So gears from what Tcase fit the Prado one?
Can I just remove the end cover and replace spacer tube with gear?
Can I do this with the Tcase still in the Prado?
Have noticed that the Front crossmember is curved for the winch driveshaft but NOT the radiator bottom tank. Any ideas anyone?? Are there differing bottom tanks or is this just another mod for me to do?
Thanks markr, yes you can pull the plate off without disrupting the oil, it is below the bottom of the plate.
All comments apprieciated, Mercutio you can see why we don't drive Mercs!
Cheers John

Thanks Old Blue, Pix would be awesome, thats AweSommme
As Question above Gear from what type of box will fit the Prado Tcase??
I also have a very slightly wobbly front output flange from the Tcase . Tried doing the same as I've just done on the rear diff, i.e. just collapse the spacer tube a bit more to give a bit more preload but alas that's not how the front output bearing gets taken up. What do I need to do here??
Any ideas about clearance for the radiator where the chassis crossmember is relieved, obviously for the winch driveshaft??
Seems the dimensions on my PTO plate are the same as for Wopass.
Thanks guys
John

You have read about the PTO install in my project thread right?
I was lucky & had the gear in the t-case. The radiator is no biggie, just mark on the bottom tank where the shaft needs to go, take it to your local radiator shop or mate who is good at brazing & get them to put a notch in it. I cut it out & shaped up a bit of copper from an old rad to fill the gap to make it easier for them.
Cheers

I'm not sure if the radiators on the KZJ's are the same as the LJ, & I had moved mine forward a bit for the engine swap, but there was nothing tricky about it.
The search link at the top of every page is pretty easy to use too, give it go.
Cheers
