New to me FJ62 and new to 4x4

Post by TOY 62 »

Just dropping in to say hi.

Got a 1988 FJ62 after looking at all sorts of 4x4's. Got it mainly for Fishing, some towing and am building a garage later in the year. My Wife will also be happy that her Previa stays clean.

Have been into Classics for over 20 years. Mainly German stuff, VW, Mercedes, Porsche. Still have some classics.

Picked up the FJ62 yesterday from the transport depot. I have read lots of stuff on the net about these and fun seemed to be the word coming up regularly. Well after driving it for a few k's yesterday, I am sold. It's feels very utilitarian which is one of the things I was looking for. I have owned a few early VW Kombis and the stock ones have a similar feel.

Anyway that's my long intro. Not sure how much I will contribute on here but likely will come back for information quite a lot. Any other FJ62 owners out there , feel free to drop me a line.

Great truck mate. Where are you located?
I've recently got an HJ61 Cruiser, and yes it is also my first 4x4.

Hi, thanks.

I'm based in Auckland. Wishing it was a desert right now.
An Uncle used to have one when I was a kid and I used to watch from the back seat. Finally I get to be in the drivers seat.

Shrapa, did you get the beige one ?

Nice one.

Auckland needs a natural disaster so I can use my 62 properly.

Careful for what you wish for .............

Better option would be to spend a few hours or the day at the Woodhill 4WD Park.

Nice! welcome!
I've got a 89 fj62 3fe one, love the ride and carting my family bush with it. Very capable stock.
Have you got the factory lockers on yours?

Had the chance to get the new model, but just love the classic retro look so looked for a fj60, fj55, and fj62.

Will visit once I'm more confident with everything on it.

On2it I had a good look around and considered the later models as well. Glad I got the 62 though as it is so much fun to drive.

Being a 4x4 newbie I'll try my best to answer your question. I take it front lockers means the manual locking of the front hubs? If so yes but if that's not what you were asking throw me the question from a different angle. I need to get a good book as well to learn more about 4x4's.

cheers

Cool so you've got the factory 2 lock levers behind your handbrake then.

Have you tested your winch yet? :)

Not quite there yet...just found the Owners manual in the glovebox.

Need to test the winch but on the driveway at home first !
