You say it is playing up, what is it doing?give us a description, there's not a lot to go wrong with these carburators. Strip down, clean out, set the float level make sure the needle and seat is working and check the accelerator pump. there is an overhaul kit avalible for them.

TAKE YOUR TIME AND HURRY,

hello its been like it for a long time now on the motor way doing 100k my foot is about 1/2 down come to a small hill push right down and it stays at the same speed then starts to slow down get over the hill down orthere side and it starts splutering then it comes right. then bout a month ago stoped a stop sign when i pulled away it started splutering and stop dead ward not start. so got a spaky to look at it he put new points, rota, condenser, and distributor cap and set the timing. it starts good and drives ok but still dont have the power like the carb not opening right up then at club champs it got realy bad it started splutering all the time on any angles. so just got a bran new petrol pump for it but still not right still wont open up so i think its the carb ?????? please tell me if am wrong.

Things to check: Remove fuel line from inlet side of fuel pump, apply low air pressure to fuel tank filler pipe(pressurise tank) and check the flow out of fuel pipe. Has fuel filter been changed?. When it starts spluttering switch ignition off put in nutral pullover and check the sight glass on the carburator (fuel level should be half way). If all these checks are ok the next time it plays up try pulling the choke out and see if that makes any difference. Clean the jets in the carb: set the float level. Have you checked the air cleaner?.
