Starting from the Owhango end we travelled as far as the Waione stream and camped picked a couple of goats off at dusk then had bbq for dinner listening to the local kiwi population up in the hills.
The Western end is a lot trickier then the eastern side couple of slips and steep decents into creek crossings and climbs out, the scrub and bush wasn't too bad, odlins road is worse then that in places, but big ups to the crews who cleared the eastern side to waione.
Following morning we travelled the rest of the way through to Sh47 onto Sh46 to rangipo then up onto the eastern side of SH1 then trundled on home.

We are planning another trip back but to also explore more areas, not just the 42nd and the immediate tracks around it.
