Escudo 91 LSD front diff
Escudo 91 LSD front diff
Hi, I have a LSD front diff (unsure what it came out of) and I have snapped to axles front right side just after the spline on the diff end. Is this because the LSD is so tight? I still had three wheel drive?? A standard Zook CV doesn't fit and need 2mm taken off the shoulder above the spline which my engineer mate says will not weaken it.
I have manual hubs with 31's. My question is can I buy a stronger axle or CV head? The axle has broken at the same spot both times and its a great hill climber with the locky rear so I would like to keep the LSD in the front.
Thanks

Re: Escudo 91 LSD front diff
are you sure its lsd front sounds like its locked as with a broken cv the other wouldnt turn,so would be rear wheel drive?
Re: Escudo 91 LSD front diff
Two people have told me it has to be a lockrite and still having three wheel drive it must be. It drives like a normal car on the open road.
I am going to take 2mm off another standard zook CV and try again as any custom axles etc need a $580 cert! I will change my driving style as I will basically have front and rear lockers so should need to hit things at full speed.
Anyone got any driving tips for front and rear lockers?

This might be worth a shot. http://www.suzuki-forums.com/1g-1999-2005-vitara-grand-vitara/37371-front-dif-loose-drive-shaft.html
The right CV is under supported and wobbles around, this could be something to do with it seeing higher stresses. The support bush made a world of difference to mine, stopped the oil leak and made the whole assembly a lot stiffer.
About $120 for the bush from Suzuki.

Mines a 1991 that seems to be a 1999 to 2005? Have one of you added this part to a 1991 front diff?
Thanks
Thanks
Re: Escudo 91 LSD front diff
All the front diffs are basically the same as far as I can tell. Every one I've seen needs this mod done to it as oil drips out of the RH diff seal and the cv is loose. It feels nice and tight after you do this mod.
Re: Escudo 91 LSD front diff
I think it is more prevalent in the GV's because the hubs on those are engaged full time?

Re: Escudo 91 LSD front diff
True but if the CV is breaking there it would probably pay to look around that area first. For 15 quid I defiantly would be trying one of these as the first step. It will allow the splines to drive truer, i realise splines can take a little angle but the less the better in my books and this mod keeps the splines way more aligned. Remember your now stressing the cv way more so things like good alignment, proper lubrication and pre existing damage will have big effects on its life.
I would get under it and see how much slop you have in that cv and compare it to other vehicles. Also see if its leaking oil out of the diff on that side.

Re: Escudo 91 LSD front diff
Made up one of those nylon bushes will let you know how it goes. As you can see we had to laiv down the standard axle to fit into the lockrite.
The original person I bought it off didn't laiv the shaft down to the correct size and was 0.5mm to small which added to the movement. We have got the correct measurement on the laiv to 0.05mm and adding the nylon bush this should last this time. The axle doesn't move at all now, solid as but still spines freely.
Thanks for your help guys!

Re: Escudo 91 LSD front diff
Just another point we cut the small lip on the green main shaft that sits on the oil seal as the nylon bush pushed the oil seal out 1mm or so and wanted to make sure the sir clip would sit correctly.

Tidy! Keen to hear if it helps.
Re: Escudo 91 LSD front diff
Had the truck out a few times now and its been great the axle is still tight as and no signs of becoming loose. The two lockers make a huge difference and I have been getting up some nasty hills and tect park tga.
Re: Escudo 91 LSD front diff
Sweet as. Any chance you could let me know if you snap another CV?
