excess oil in catch can

Post by J_Dub »

So after fitting a catch can to the Isuzu 2.8 and after doing 500km in short to med trips over the last 2 weeks I checked the can and it already had approx 500ml.

Is the only reason for excess oil caused by excess blow by which is only caused by worn rings?

Yep.

Fit a drain to the can and plumb it into the dipstick tube and keep driving it.

No. Lots of 'blow-by' gas is boost leaking past turbo seals. If turbo seals leaking more, then more 'blow-by' could result. Also if the gauze in tappet cover is blocked up it wont filter the oil droplets out of the blow-by air as efficiently- causing more oil in catchcan.
Agree with Mattman re drain tube to dipstick tube to keep draining catchcan.

Isuzus really dont like egr so most likely worn rings (my last two had same issue, those isuzu motors just wear out fast or possibly the egr valves get stuck open and that's what kills them, maybe it's the liners they use?). If oil is in catch can and you've sourced the catch can feed from the rocker cover then it's most likely worn rings as too much compression is bypassing into the sump and forcing the oil out the top.

Like Matt says chuck it back into the motor and drive it till it blows...which from my experience will be a bloody long time...they just don't seem to die :-D

Cheers guys, that was my suspicions, just confirming, not stressing too much, I know if I fit a 3.1 dipstick tube I can fit a drain line but no harm in topping up with new oil every tank a gas either, I'm not realy enjoying the auto so it will probably be on trade me in the new year
