Hey All
Purchased this new to me 1991 Landcruiser to replace my 185 surf of towing duties and also as a club truck. its pretty standard with a 2" lift and 33" Tyres
with 350kms on the clock, heres the list of things i want to do to it.
1. Big end bearings
2. Egt and Boost gauge (oil pressure already installed)
3. 2wd conversion (turoa special)
4. Full 3 inch exhaust
5. Front & Rear bar + Sliders
6. Modified turbo Proberly by Steve Murch and then pump tweak
7. 4" lift kit (purchased just need to be installed)
8. Rear box with draws and extendable to form a sleeping platform
And sure some stuff ive missed so will add when i remember and also update when completed.
First on the list tho is WOF.

Re: 80 series VX tow Wagon
Shot down to the local VTNZ today to flick here through for a wof, Failed on handbrake so 1 hour later all adjusted up and replacing the 2 missing wheel nuts on the back wheels from the previous owner
and fresh wof on the window screen.
I had the manager put it through for me lucky as i know him quite well he commented on front wheel bearings having more play than they should but not enough to affect the wof so that was todays mission.
While talking to him i queried him on aftermarket spring lifts as the cruiser already has a 2" lift but i have a 4" to put into it, Interesting his comments were "a maxium of 50mm spacers are allowed for springs before being certified, any spring that sits in the factory mounts without modification is deemed ok and there is no need for cert" i was happy with that but go me thinking on how someone can go and buy some 6" lift of TM install it while buggering up there whole caster and making it dangerous to drive but still get a wof under this law???
Anyhow back home and into the front axel luckly these had all the wheel nuts attached, jacked up to check play, yep to much there, remove the front wheel, caliper, finger tight nuts and the hub
into the garage to remove bearings clean and regrease with high temp wheel bearing grease
reassemble on truck and then onto the other side, bugger the back bearing stayed with the spindle out with the pullers to remove. A full grease of all steering joints and drive shafts was also done. As im doing the 2wd conversion shortly is was decided to put the free wheeling hubs on now (had to dig them out form the bottom of my hilux box and rebuild one of them but all assembled and good to go.
Drive flanges still in good condition will be put back into the hilux box as spares.

Re: 80 series VX tow Wagon
With the front hubs now on i thought i would take it for a quick squirt up the road in 2wd to see what it will be like so hubs out and center diff engaged off we went. 100mts down the road BANG
and some funny (well not to me
) gear meshing (or not meshing) sounds and no drive stop and take off again fine 100 mts same thing happening again think the centre diff aint to healthy need to pull apart to inspect.

Hey k
I havent looked into it a huge amount but would say i will whip the turbo off and sent it to Steve at MSE Turbos for him to work his magic on i will ring him first to get some idea of what i will need to supply and a cost, but i would imagine it would be alot cheaper than the gturbo alternative
