1kz prado odrive issues

Post by Jamie »

Hi i bought a kzj95 prado with 1kz. Havent owned it long but im having some issues with the auto box. It throws a fault where it loses overdrive and holds the gears while accelerating from standstill. Have to take your foot completely off the gas to make it change gear. It happened once before but it seemed to fix itself. On a long trip yesterday it started spluttering between top gear and overdrive then that was it. No overdrive and gearchange issues begin. It also wont kickdown while its faulting. This cut in and out a couple of times over 150kms.

So, I disconnected the speed sensor at the rear of the gearbox and it solved the problem. Solved i thought, faulty speed sensor throwing signals But halfway home, 100kms later while still unplugged it played up again for a few minutes. Its running ok again now but i feel the car is binding up. It may be my imagination but somethings not right, it feels as though the engines always very slightly under load, as if its been pushed back on. It rolls fine so its not brake related. It just feels different while coasting, sluggish

So.. possible tps?

And fluid is fine

ECU most likely faulty ... will have some blown capacitors ...a very common problem.

Send ECU to Anything Electronics in Nelson. They can test and repair... Good prices.

There's also a guy in Auckland. He did mine for $175. Calls himself MitsiSpec. Really good bloke.

look at the ECU first, its a common age related fault that is easily fixed
