Bit more too it than you might think. Fuel tank would have to be moved for a start. That does leave room for a rear winch though. Also Disco bodies are a mixture of steel and aluminium so not always easy to patch back together.

Put some feelers out for prices, so will see what happens.

Heres some prices from a Pomgolian website, didn't think it was too bad.


Land Rover Discovery Bob Tail Conversions


Our Land Rover Discovery bob tail conversion process follows these steps:



1. Pressure wash down
2. Remove rear side window and fuel tank and rear seats
3. Remove back door
4. Measure agreed length of removal
5. Cut body panels
6. Measure chassis and cut
7. Remove rear section of exhaust by unbolting or cutting near join
8. File cut edges
9. Refit body panels plate inside and poprivit and weld roof
10. Refit rear door (sometimes need new hinge bolts as they seize up and break)
11. Weld rear chassis end caps on
12. Plate over holes were windows where

13. Refit boot floor
14. Fit new internal tank and sender in boot (filler neck outside of landrover)
15. Refit rear seats and panels
16. Seal all inside to protect from water leaking in

17. Refit roof lining



Price from £750



Extras......at additional cost

18. Grind rivets down and smooth lip/join - from £250
19. Prime and guide coat - from £100
20. Blend the paint in where necessary - From £200

Yer they are real cool and am actually about to sell my 40 Series 350 Chevy powered mud truck and buy a Disco 1 V8 and bobtail it. Looking to get/ build a truck with windows cause I bleed like a pig being on blood thinners and the bloody blackberry rip the crap out of me. The cruiser ain't got no windows and only half doors so a nice bobtail with lockers and 35" will be great. Good luck with ur search.

Here is quite a good photo essay of one being built up, you could get a really good rear winch mount on the back as one of the guys said above. Keep us informed on any progress on the Bobtail build

Yer that's a great photo there. Will post once I buy a truck and take loads of pics as I progress (or stuff it up........)
