2015 Westcoast Easter weekend trip.

Post by mike »

Who's keen? I'm definitely going.

Shiny to club truck. I want to do some of the classics as I havnt been there in a long long time. The tunnels, big river, no name road - cockeye creek, greenland and Chasm if doable. Those are just the ones I can think of and have tabled.

So for the club tracks (most likely the sunday) you would need a well setup vehicle with a winch and full recovery equipment (other trucks might not be able to get to you easily). Snorkels are a must.

Shiny days are, fri, sat(possibly two trips on, one shiny and one clubish depending on who's coming and numbers), and mon (home day)

Basic recovery gear including recovery points, mud terrains or good all terrains are a must.

REALLY looking forward to getting back down there!

Stay a night at the hut the other side of Mount Greenland? then Nelson Creek, Slab Hut Creek or Ahaura camp grounds for the other two nights perhaps as they are central to Big River, Chasm, and the Tunnels
Or are people looking for cabins/motels. Then the Top Ten in Grey is probably the best bet. Especially if people want a decent town to source Nissan and Mitsi Parts, :-)
I'm keen to throw up a tent where ever, there are also a few spots through No Name you can drop a few tents if need be.
If you want a base near Greymouth then the Dunollie Pub used to have a spot of grass you could throw a few tents up on, cheaper than the Greymouth Top Ten camp ground

Keen on some shiny stuff.

For the Shiny crew:

Friday Denniston/Mackley River track. Camp out on the beach discreetly on Friday night.

Saturday, Waipuna Tunnels and camp out on somewhere on the river bank between tunnels and access gate by the bridge Saturday night.

Sunday, No Name Road, camp at Hohonu River, which is a stones throw away from the main road. Could even do Big (yawn) River (yawn) and camp the night in there and come out Monday morning. Its a pretty long and slightly unexciting drive in there, but the reward at the end is good :D

Monday, travel home via porika and Braeburn tracks for those heading for the ferry??

Just thinking out loud :D :D :D

I've updated the first post with a poll. Let me know if I've got tracks in the wrong places as I can't remember what difficulty they all are (all easy for the surf 8) )

Check the boxes on all the ones that apply to you so we can gauge who is interested in what and formulate a plan around accommodation/locations/what days are best for what. I'm at least going to book my ferry ticket for the thursday and monday and everything else in-between should hopefully be just awesome

It will be good to catch up with some of you 8)
