TD42 starting issues - injector pump

Post by paorabear »

So my Safari died earlier this week, Its started, cooughed and then stopped. I checked fuel flow by hand priming to the injector pump - when viewing banjo bolt it was flowing steadily each pump to the injector pump.

I have picked up another Injector Pump and I have a workshop manual to follow and hvae average Mech knowledge doing the vast majoroity of my own repairs, but curious if this a task to leave for Diesel Mech or can I do this myself in my garage...?

you can do,it your self most of us who turbo our truck pull the pumps for mods at same time, the pump gear may be a bitch to remove its on tha taper with a wood rough key, that key make reinstalling a mission sometimes.
little v timing marks on the gears to line up before you pul the gear off, then it's doable :D

How did you detirmine its the pump.... the hand primers are renowned for perishing and allowing air in causing coughing stalling and hard starting. Yet will still pump up firm, still push fuel through

physically swapping the pump over is not overly strenuous,
having a dial indicator and adapter to go up the pumps date to time it correctly will have to be factored in though.
problems are only a problem if you not willing to learn how to find solutions

What he said. I'd be making sure you don't have a blockage or leak somewhere first before replacing the pump.
