1987 BJ70 3b NEED Transfer case!
1987 BJ70 3b NEED Transfer case!
Hi all I'm after a transfer case for a 1987 BJ70 Landcruiser. If anyone knows of anything please let me know! Thanks.
Re: 1987 BJ70 3b NEED Transfer case!
Hi Maria, welcome to ORE! You may know this already but the transfer case in the BJ70, (known as the 'split case') is common to many varieties of Landcruiser. All the 70 series (except the new V8's), later model 40 series & all 60 series have the same transfer box. There are sometimes minor differences in shifter type, handbrake option etc but the key parts should swap over.

I suspected but wasn't sure! I'm new to this so I'm still learning. Thanks! Would all 70 B series transfer cases be the same? Sorry I'd just rather know what will be the easiest or if anything will kinda just bolt on with no changes? Thanks.

just so you know if you have a manual you pretty much need to strip the transfer box to remove from the gearbox so a 40/60 shouldnt be to much of an issue swapping parts
Re: 1987 BJ70 3b NEED Transfer case!
40 series split boxes don't have the oiler cup to lubricate the 5th gear so you'll have to swap the internals over to your housing if you use a transfer case off a 4 speed box, then you also run into the problem of early cases using a 34mm idler pin and later ones using 38mm idler pins so its worth doing a wee bit of checking depending on what you buy
