Auto hub bolt size

Post by jeremyisme »

Hi guys,

I've just got myself an Escudo, 4 years after selling my Vitara. They're both 1993's.

The one I just got has had the front hubs removed, because the previous owner had broken the front diff, and never got around to fixing it. I've swapped the diff and was about to put the hubs back on, but then I realised I didn't have the bolts to put the auto free wheel hubs back on. Can anyone tell me the size (M10?) and length of the bolts?

Thanks

Ok, maybe another dumb question, does it matter which side the auto hubs go on? I mean is there a left hub and a right hub or are they interchangeable?

Ill answer your question with a question....what would the hubs do if you selected reverse?

Yeah, I had the same reasoning, but when I play with one, it will lock if you turn it far enough in either direction (unless that is the answer to your question?...). I understand the auto hubs unlock in reverse when not in load, i.e. if you reverse while still in 4wd they will stay locked because the driveshaft is turning the wheels, rather than the wheel turning the driveshaft, as is the case with the reversing when you unlock them.

So I'm going with it doesn't matter what side...

Spot on otherwise when u get stuck in 4wd and need to reverse would be a shame to only have 2wd haha

Thanks. It was not something I have ever considered but then I had seen people asking for a "left" auto hub, etc. on trademe and it go me thinking.
