Loose and wobbly steering wheel?

Post by crazydragon »

The KZJ78 at work has quite bad steering wheel wobble when going more than 50kmph. It doesn't do it 100% of the time, more like 60%.

This occurs frequently when going on a straight line. If you let go of the steering wheel, it will wobble left and right. Hold on to it, turn it left right slightly and it goes back to normal.

The mechanic across the street passed it's wof, but honestly he's dodgy as hell.

I'm guessing I should check the panhard rods and tie rod ends, but anything else to check?

well...atleast we know where to go for a wof

Anyway i would be starting with the, draglink radius arm bushes basically give anything front axle related a good wiggle with a bar and see what moves more then it should.
Waiter...there is a drought in my glass.

If it stops the wobble when turning, then I'd look at panhard bushes first...

get a mate or the missus to grab the steering wheel and turn sharply from side to side, while underneath check panhard bushes both steering ams balljoints for any movment. are you tyres balanced reason i ask is i have the same issue when running my off road tyres (silverstones) on my hilux not balanced but when i throw my club tyres on (Maxxis) the problem goes away, could be worth a look.
