80 series suspension height measurement needed
80 series suspension height measurement needed
Its probably a big ask on this forum but does anyone still have an early 80series landcruiser with the standard suspension in it. I need the measurement from the centre of the wheel hub to the underside of the wheel guard. This is the measurement that is used on certification plates for certifying lifted vehicles. I am trying to find out what lift height my truck is so need to know what they were as standard. I think I have a sagged 6" lift. The cert plate says it should be over 100mm higher than what it is. Looking at replacing the springs to bring at back up but trying to work out what springs will be needed.
Re: 80 series suspension height measurement needed
I couldnt find standard, but according to offroad 80's 6" should be:
front = 705
rear = 740
front = 705
rear = 740

Re: 80 series suspension height measurement needed
mate big ask there
a few yrs back PV was trying to gather stats on std height 4bys and nothing was the same
big factors are
how many k's?
what work has the wagon done?
has it been loaded and for how long?
has it been a shopping trolley?
has it had the susp changed already and now they to have settled?
the list goes on
good luck
oh my std springs empty were around
front 460mm empty
rear 500mm empty and >400 loaded
now with 50mm extra height plus heavier by around 100/150kg
590mm front and 530 rear with the same load
too much crap to off load to check empty weight, the front hardly moves whether the rear has load or not
it will eventually settle once i install a front bar and electric string puller
just need to work on that budget

Re: 80 series suspension height measurement needed
found an approximation:
Stock:
Front 520mm - Rear 525mm
2inch Lift
Front 560mm - Rear 570mm
4inch Lift
Front 645mm - Rear 670mm
6inch Lift
Front 690mm - Rear 725mm
My cert plate wont be right now as I've taken the factory flares off and thats where it was measured to

Re: 80 series suspension height measurement needed
Thanks for the info.
My truck has never matched the cert plate. It was always 100mm lower which makes me think there was an error made when certing. Suspect the guy doing the cert measured it with the start of the tape on the 100 instead of 0. Have had trouble getting a warrant sometimes. It was certed when it came into the country with what I believe is a 6" lift and its never been changed. It has now dropped a lot more since I have been towing with it. Looking at replacing the springs and even looking at taking it up to what the cert plate says. Might mean a 10" lift. Imagine that a road legal certed cruiser with a 10" lift. Might not fit in my garage. Will check what the cert plate says when I get home and let you know. Hopefully with the information you guys have given me I should be able to order some new springs to suit.

Re: 80 series suspension height measurement needed
Checked my height and cert plate last night. My actual height is:
Front 685. Have allow bars and a winch on the front.
Rear 640. Have draws compressor and all sorts of bits in the back.
My cert plate is
Front 755
Rear 770
+ or - 5%
