EGT - WHY?

EGT - WHY?
What have you got? (I did search, the latest thread was at least 1 year old...)
I'm thinking I want an EGT, Coolant and Ambient Temp sensor/unit.
Just wondering what my options are, who has what, and where you got it?
I like the look of:
http://kiwi-air.co.nz/content/flyhenry- ... fly-meters
Wondering if i can plug three temps in instead of two.
but then I prefer the price of:
http://jaycar.co.nz/Test-%26-Measuremen ... s/p/QM1284
4wdbits have a basic:
http://www.4wdbits.co.nz/ProductDetails ... uctID=3792
which would do I suppose but would leave me thinking that I still want the other temps...

Re: EGT - WHY?
Auberins, if you search for that you should find plenty of info on here about them.

has alarm output, is adjustable for different sensors. even got a dual channel one. has memory recall.
just be careful with gauges like the 4wdbits link autoguage one. they are not always suitable for diesels as they don't read low enough. you want a gauge that reads 0-900 where as petrol ones often read 200-1200.
the jaycar link is just the sensor only.

Re: EGT - WHY?
Strongly recommending the Auberins gauge also, put mine in at start of year, perfect.

They certainly look good. Might have to do a rotating switch, 3p3t, behind it so I can manually switch between sensors though?
Do they have an nz distributor?

Not sure what you mean here but switching between sensors would probably require reprogramming of the gauge itself every time the sensor is switched - i could be wrong here though!
Perhaps take a look at the multi-display/multi sensor gauges they offer like this one ;

no nz distributor either. but I got mine in 7 days usps. cheap enough that i probably wouldnt send it back if it crapped out, just grab another one. bang for buck.
Re: EGT - WHY?
auberins says its ok to switch between sensors provided they are the same type so the unit doesn't need to be reconfigured for the other sensor.

Yes I saw that, but still only 2 inputs. Now just to sort out international money and postage

Awesome, I figuired it would have to be. A few wideband sensors and I should be okay.

wideband?
you talking AFR sensors? if so thats a different ball game altogether. only basic sensors like temp sensor are switchable.
Re: EGT - WHY?
I just ordered from auberins online. Postage was real fast

No, i just mean thermocouples that measure a wide range/ band of temperatures.
If an egt only goes down to 400 say, its no good for ambient measurement.
Ideally, I need a probe that will do -20 to +1000 celcius.

Re: EGT - WHY?
Have seen my EGT gauge down at 14 deg C, assuming it can go lower
Re: EGT - WHY?
not sure what the low limit would be. most of the sensors i had a quick look at only showed upper limit.
i've had egt sensor below zero easy enough. the good thing about the digital gauges is they show a much wider range compared to most dial gauges.
