Anyone have a Daihatsu 2.8L engine for sale?
Anyone have a Daihatsu 2.8L engine for sale?
Just out of interest, I was wondering if anyone either has, or knows of someone that would consider parting with a Daihatsu 2.8L Turbo (preferred) DL52 engine? These came out of the Daihatsu Rugger 4WDs and Delta light trucks.
I'd like to rebuild the one I currently have and have another as a running spare as these are becoming harder and harder to find. I'm ideally after a complete engine assembly with power steering pump, starter, alternator and injection pump.
I'm in the Manawatu region too, but can travel to pick up if needed.
Flick me a PM if you can help me out.

The Daihatsu Delta is an automotive nameplate that has been used on a variety of Japanese Daihatsu trucks and vans between 1970 and 2010. They have usually been Toyota-based, or otherwise based on models from the Toyota-owned Hino Motors. The trucks have utilized a cab over engine or mid-engine design. Typically fitted with Toyota engines
Just sayin.

Yes, Toyota sold it as the Blizzard, usually with the 2L-T in it.
The Daihatsu 2.8 was a 2765cc engine, versus the Toyota 3L diesel at 2779cc

Not even remotely similar.
-Daihatsu: Non overhead cam pushrod motor with non crossflow head.
-Toyota: Overhead cam crossflow head.
All Daihatsu F7X Ruggers/Rockys had the option of either the Toyota 3y or the Daihatsu 2.8. Only the Toyota badged Blizzard came with the 2L/2LT 2.4.
Re: Anyone have a Daihatsu 2.8L engine for sale?
Yea as said, the Daihatsu 2.8Litre DL engine is a completely different animal to the Toyota 3L 2.8 Litre. Also, as correctly stated, the petrol versions of the Rugger and Delta did indeed use the Toyota Y series engines. The Toyota Blizzard (Rugger equivalent) did run the Toyota 2.4 Litre 2L-T. Later model Delta trucks also used the Toyota B series diesel engines, as well as the common rail KD series engines in the latest models.
I understand there is some confusion between the Toyota and Daihatsu engines as most people have only heard rumours through the grapevine that they are identical, or at least share the same parts.
Here is a photo showing the non crossflow head (two inlet ports, 3 exhaust) and block clearly stamped with the Daihatsu "D" logo.
The long bolt-on plate that's located near the bottom of the photo is the camshaft inspection cover.
Also, here's a photo showing the rockers with no overhead cam shaft present.
You learn something new every day don't ya
