X NZ army 109 Stage 1 V8 Drive issue

Post by billyvanboheman »

Hi Team,

Been a long time between drinks for me on the forum, and before I get too much stick, yes I am still alive :)

In fact I have still got the Isuzu Bighorn I had when I started with the Offroad Express forum :)

I now also have a 1968 x Army Landy, and a 1986 109 stage 1 V8 Landrover which are both under restoration at the moment.

My question is about a fellow NZ Army Landrover addict, who is having a drive issue with one of his.

There is no drive getting to the rear driveshaft?

I have jacked it up, and when in gear, the front driveshaft is turning, but not the rear.

It is still drivable with diff lock engaged, but I just need to narrow down if it's transfer case I need to be pulling out to sort out, or if there is anything else to consider/test first.

I started with rear axles, and both are fine, along with the drive hubs, so i suspect it is transfer case, but just want to know if there are any other here who have struck the same issue, before I drop the box out of it.

Yes if the rear driveshaft isn't turning at all it will be the centre diff. you cant remove the transfer box as such from the LT95 four speed, but you should be able to fix it all in-situ. remove the drivers side floor plate and away you go. You can still buy the parts to rebuild the centre diff. Google is also your friend on setting everything up- LT95 gearbox

Pete/oldyella had an issue with is box in landy only being fwd and it was a vacuum leak that fixed it. Flick him a pm. Might just be a quick fix but I can't get my head around how only fwd works out of a 4wd box ....

I had the same problem in my ex army 110, turns out the rear output shaft from the TC was sheared.
