80 Series Land Cruiser - 1HDT Electrial Issue

Post by morrytip »

So I am after a bit of help with something that has got me stumped. I bought a replacement motor (1HD-T from a 1991 Automatic Land Cruiser) and put it into my land cruiser (1993 1HD-T Manual).

Everything went in fine until I went to hook up the sensors. I noticed I didn't have the sump sensor on the replacement engine so left it off. When I went to turn the starter over to try start the motor it was sluggish (Flat battery).

I stopped trying start it and noticed smoke from the loom that goes to the sensors etc. Pulled it off and found a burnt out wire (White w\ Black) which I am pretty sure is the earth which goes to all the sensors.

Any one got any idea what I might have done wrong or had anything similar happen?

Cheers Maurice

This is an old topic but I am curious. Did you find the problem and was it that the earth lead from the right hand battery was not connected to the engine block leaving the tiny instrument ground to carry the starter current?
