Vacuum hose

Post by fh2014 »

Where are you guys going/best place in auckland for vacuum hose and accessories? I have damaged the clear line that came with my boost gauge and now require a small coupler and some more line to extend back to the intake manifold. It also came with a tee that had a small restricting piece in it to stop the gauge wobbling away at idle - can these be purchased alone as well?

Cheers

supercheap auto, bnt, partmaster, repco, sedgins, bunnings warehouse,. trademe, plumber, ummmm it's like a dollar a meter for that clear 4mm stuff. or next time your at nick-a-part just rip the washer bottle line out that goes to the rear window on a station wagon...

for example the hose for the rear washer in a mistral is 8 meters long by the time it winds its way from the washer bottle in the engine bay through the body work to the rear window.

Try Norgren. I've a bit at home if you want some 4mm, PM me if you want to come and collect.

thanks for the replies.

wasnt as worried about the hose, have seen heaps of that fat walled 4mm blue/black/red crap around - would prefer the smaller walled clear stuff. doesnt need to handle a million psi, just 80ish (double max working pressure)

was more interested in the little couplings and tees. haven't seen these around before (mind you they are small)

since its for a boost gauge Im unsure why it must be clear... but HCD or some other engineering hose shop will sell brass ones. a couple of cable ties will suffice as a hose clamp.
Double max pressure..... your aiming for 40psi of boost? FYI, at 25psi boost in the mitsi, the push fit hoses stay on fine with one tie

Bad math there after a couple rums. I'm running 20psi. So 40 psi line would be sweet.

I prefer the clear as you can tell if the the lines getting gunked up and the small wall makes it easier to fit through tight places. The wall thickness on the blue stuff is overkill, a 4mm line is like a 12mm O.D. Or something.

make sure you use an automotive hose as opposed to something you might steal off the back of the fish tank or it'll perish and crack with the heat in no time :D

The clear stuff that comes with your repco gauges is good for f/a heat too, the silicon stuff is much more tolerant.. Get an electrical gauge rather than a mechanical one, then you don't have to run hose in cab

I think they use the clear PVC rubbish cos its cheap in mass amounts, even expensive gauges come with it. I keep it for bleeding brakes. The factory type rubber hose, silicon, or factory nylon tube pinched off a euro car are all much better than PVC for actual VAC/boost lines.
