Ok so it goes like this, had me a D21 for 10yrs then it got riten off, awesome truck with a few mods to the TD27, last year brought a D40 diesel, great ute smooth quite gruntie as, awesome tourer and even goes good off road well, be it lacking ground clearance.
Now recently spent thousands on the fuell system and with a young family I cant afford that so looking at down trading.
The 3.2 correct me if Im wrong is a bigger cc 2.7?
as nice as the new efi diesels are I miss the old school nungers... so looking for a D22 3.2 BUT I dont know if I could handle a non turbo, how relible are the NZ nissan fitted turbos on these engines? why did Nissan do this?

Re: D22 3.2?
the 3.2 qd32 is the bigger brother to the td27.
i've seen dts turbo kits fitted to them. but also td27 turbo gear bolts on and there is the factory turbo version out of the terrano.
none turbo are just gutless and slow. reliability with turbo should be fine, but it depends on how the fueling is done.
a lot of them just increase base fueling which can result in big black clouds of smoke out the back at low rpm, if over done. pistons don't like that sort of treatment.
i heard that nissan fitted the kits to be able to sell them because everyone else had turbo diesels.
biggest problem is they are just old utes. your looking at a 15 year old ute. motor may be good but everything else will be showing its age.

Re: D22 3.2?
they maybe a 15yr old ute... but still more reliable than my 9yr ute... and my 25yr old ute was more reliable than all of them.
I was wondering today about the terano, the shape that never came out as a navara... what is in them? I ASume by what you are saying is they had a 3.2 factory turbo?

that Shape as you put it was the R50 terrano and R51 pathfinder, it was a monocoque design with no ladder chassi and came with a 3l v6 petrol, TD27eti or a QD32eti,
the TD27eti and qd32 eti being completely different animals to there non electronic ancestors.
same with the facelift R20's.
Waiter...there is a drought in my glass.
Re: D22 3.2?
I run a qd32 with td27 turbo and inlet on it, fuel wise just a minor tweak on the screw.
I'm scrapping the ute shortly to chuck the driveline in a patrol (once I find a spirit box/transfer)
it runs pretty damn well and has been really reliable
