No - am looking at swapping a manual to auto in a Defender. Daily driving in traffic duties...

I did that many years ago too. I bought a v8 90 manual and a classic RR 3.9efi and auto. I pulled the carb v8 and Santana 5 speed from the 90 and transplanted the 4 speed ZF, viscous transfer and efi V8 into the 90.
It was the most fun vehicle I owned. I used to go hot hatch baiting at the traffic lights - up to about 50mph it was really quick :D  :D

I sold the carb v8 and 5 speed for more than I paid for the RR bits too and the 90 Efi used less fuel than the carbs!

Awesome!

Yes, I've owned quite a few Defenders - but never an auto one (the 300tdi conversion seems well done and reviews are good). fingers crossed... now to find a shop to do it for a reasonable price

not blasphemy when sitting in traffic on the motorway :D

I've heard good things from people who have converted them... quite a few ppl saying they would never go back. I've owned 200tdi, 300tdi, td5, and a puma... they all have good/bad things about them but the 300tdi is relatively straight forward to convert so gonna have a go. I think it would be hard to hate.
