Find an electric factory locker for the rear like mine has.
They are stonger than the conventional factory open units and cheaper than ARB's

I have found nothing wrong with the Auto unlocker that I have put in the front of mine. It gets used a lot cos of the 1" to bump stops that my standard sus has all around. I am often working out of my rig and I always have about 3/4 of a tonne on board.

I hardly use the rear locker cos the front works so well. And no the lock is not affected and no the steering is hardly any different cos we have power assisted steering.

Traversing greasy sidlings I cant comment on cos I dont like steep sidling anyway. A product of 17 rolls, 7 of which were end for end over two large bluffs.

There are several Prados running 35's now that have been on 33's with lots of use over 6 or 7 years with Lock-rights in the front that I can think of straight off.

Yes you are making a little more torque but it will be at higher revs, thus it is up to how much jandle you use.

By the way I think you are more likely to have about 250 ps on the ground out of your V8 unless you have done quite a bit of work to it. This is based on the dyno results of several Lexus V8's that I have been around and helped with the tuning.

Cheers John

Hey Clint- you might want to pull out your cvs and have a look at them your model cruiser runs a bigger cv than a hilux or 40/60/70 series cruiser.
Suppost to be quite a bit stronger.

Thanks for the info on the electric locker Johnno, I'd heard of them on the LJ/KZJ but never talked to anybody who actually has one. Mind you I bet the wreckers would want moonbeams for them so maybe not much cheaper than the ARB? I'll have to find out.

You're probably right with the 250rwhp figure. The only figures I have seen for a setup similar to mine are from a mate's hilux, it supposedly put down 290rwhp, but that was on a dyno well known for it's optimism. The bigger exhaust (combined with the Link) definitely liberates a heap of power over standard though, I've driven some conversions with the standard headers & without the 'Mike' tune & they're pretty average compared with mine.

I have had the CV's out, when I did the hubs, I compared them to some 80's hilux ones & they were a little bigger & looked stronger with smaller flats. The difference wasn't anything like the step up in size to Nissan CV's though. I should have taken a pic. Maybe I'll try the air locker on them when the time comes & order some longfields if they break.

Cheers

The storage setup is all done now apart from the alu drawers to go in the boxes. I just have to wait until my bro's jetboat is finished so I can scrounge up some 3mm alu.

I got all the opening & shutting bits done & stuck on some carpet, thanks to Central Trim & Upholstery in Taupo for the scrap of carpet!

Cheers guys, they're 33x12.5 Sumitomos, & measure up at about 32" dia when new. I know I'll have to move my spare mount when I go bigger, it only just clears the bumper underneath too.

maybe talk to mike from 4wd upgrades? My mate just got the exact same tyres put on his prado and mike said it did'nt take too much work at all to make the spare not foul on the rear door.......that being said they do only just clear!!!

Been back into the cruiser hard out over the last few weeks in preparation for the Reefton Challenge. Klem from Performance Mechanical has built an awesome twin snorkle-lightbar setup that will be incorporated into a full exo cage eventually, I've made some airboxes with the help of Mike from Taupo Sheetmetals, my co-driver Karl has installed the dual band CB & I've put a seal on the crank behind the fanbelt pulley & emptied a tube of sealant around all the cambelt covers to keep the crap & water out of there.

Stand by for pics

spooging up the front of the motor, you can see the alloy airboxes under the junk either side.

You get a little more hp at high rpm, not a heap, but that intake was lying around (Klem had taken off when he put on a supercharger) so I thought why not, running that with the twin airboxes made it easy to fit in plenty of filtration & use cheap common air filters.

Made it onto the cover of the 4x4 Action magazine while down in Reefton. It would have been nice to have a pic of the wagon powering up the hill half airbourne instead of on it's side where it ended up though!

Hey! it's Hardcock to you boy, get it right :P You're just jealous 'cos your wagon is a few cylinders short of having a real motor :P :)

What's on on the 27th? Me mum has decided to shift house on the 30th/1st so unfortunately I'm going to miss the action then.
