WTB: 40/60/70 Series Land Cruiser Tie Rod

Post by Mehrts »

Hey guys,

I'm after a straight tie rod from any older leaf sprung 70 series Cruiser as mine is a bit bent.. As far as I'm aware, the 40 and 60 series used the same steering components too. Can't seem to find anything in the way of rods but there are plenty of tie rod ends for sale though!

If you have anything lying around, then flick me a PM.

might try to give Toyota a call as they are very cheap for the 80 if you get the steering arm, you then get tie rods both ends for about $50..awesome value I feel..

Oh yea, do the 80 series use the same rods too? That could be an option.

Sometimes I'm surprised how well some things are priced from Toyota. Other times I'm surprised how bloody expensive other things can be!

The plan is to throw a new tie rod in and straighten my current one up and keep it as a spare.

The link rod lenghts must be differsnt as o/a axles are differant lenghts.
40 and 70 will be the same thou

I should be able to confirm lenghts tomorrow whilst out in shed if required

Also 80 tierod links are rear of diff so would be longer again

Yea that would be great if you could have a measure up for us Mudlva. The steering setup I've got at the moment is from a BJ73 Cruiser. I'll see if I can swing past the wreckers tomorrow and see what they have to offer..

Hey Mehrts

I needed a new LH tie rod bearing for a WOF late last year, went to Blenheim Toyota. $50 or so trade price, anyhow it came with a brand new tie rod.

Let me know if you want dimensions etc.

I can't use it as I have an aftermarket Hi Steer kit with bigger sized everything..

And yep, Toyota parts have recently had a big review of their pricing. Lots of stuff has become more reasonably priced. Although I believe some stuff has gone up...

Just measured my two trucks

FJ40 with powersteer conversion from unknown Toyota truck, tie rod is 1070mm, so assume this is 70 series gear

60 series with factory gear, tie rod is 1120mm

Just measured my tie rod and it came to be 1070mm.

Didn't get a chance to do anything today, so it might be a next week job to see what's on offer locally.

Matt, by tie rod bearing, do you mean the rod end with ball joint?

leaf sprung 70 series tierod complete with balljoints on both ends is retail $45 plus gst from Toyota, been same price for about the last 10 years

40 series is same length but smaller balljoints that wont fit the 70 series steering arms on the swivel housings

60 series balljoints are same size as 70 series but the tierod is too long to fit a 70 series
