Nissan trans ecu compatibility

Post by J_Dub »

Need to replace the trans comp in my d21 diesel auto, 1995, last of the d21

I've found another comp out of the same vehicle but 2 years older, same trans, the numbers on the 2 computers are only different by the last 2 numbers on the Nissan number and only 1 number different on the component number..

Will this replacement comp be OK?
The only difference being this came from a cable speedo and I think mines elec..

Do I need to find an exact replacement and will I make maters worse by trying this other computer?

The only way to know for sure would be to get pinouts for both ecu's and compare. But this is a Nissan and if both plugs are the same there is a high chance it will work.
The main difference I can think of is yours being later it may have different programming for shift points as they later D21's had the black top motor which has a little more power. The speedo signal shouldn't make too much difference as the auto has an output speed sensor on it separate to the speedo sensor, and the auto will function without an operational speedo.

Sooo just to re-cap for future reference.

The silver ecu replacement worked fine.

I have all gears now.
Bloody relief to originally thinking it was a trans replacement jobby..

Only problem now is the kickdown isn't working but I will look at adjusting that.

Speedo works too

Speedo drive is irrelevant, it uses engine and output speeds to figure everything out speedo drive is stand alone, check TPS voltage and full throttle switch make sure pedal gets full movement
