I also think this is a good idea, a week long poll at the end of the month would sort out the judging, and it will encourage us all to take the cameras on the trips :P
Limit to one photo per user, per month (if you have too many trucks you can submit another the following month) and we will all see how good our photo skills are
It could also bring the embarrassing photos out of the dark for all to see

Good point, maybe the prizes could be from a sponsor’s pool?? or donated? 8)

What about having the feature photo on the front page for the month. Then after 12 months we can organise a calender of said photo's. After all it's not about winning prizes and would only cost time (I dear not call Mick's time cheap)

Sounds good to me?

No need for prizes right?

You wouldn't if you've ever had to employ him

Probably a good idea, and I like the calendar idea too. The pic could be used on the main page for the month after its voted on, and the winner can have the kudos of being on the page for that month. If any of the site vendors wanted to add a prize for that months pic they could do so.

Probably best to put it in a competitions / giveaways forum which would be readable by everyone but posting / voting should be limited to supporting members. Someone said it would be fair to let everyone in... I'm not sure how its fair to allow non-site-supporters into it - the perks of the site should be enjoyed by those who support its ongoing development with their time and money - otherwise who's going to bother paying the fees?

Not sure if I want to see any more forums on here until the ones we have are trimmed down tho...

i love the idea.
How about this, we have the Pic/ Truck of the month and at the end of the year we all vote on the Pic/truck of the year and they get a small prize ( ie Mug, or if a sponsor is keen for small prize ie Max $100)
the winner of each month gets that page on the calander and the winner of the year gets front page/cover

Now the hard part would be to vote for the month Pic/truck. When would we have to have them in by. ( thrid week of that month, voting on the last month. maybe

Only throwing ideas around

Umm, i can't find the competition forum, got a link for us there?

Oh and it should be supporters only for sure, otherwise I could create a thousand pretend user names and vote for me

Just a simple poll type voting system, and on the title page have a forward/back function so you can see previous months. Well it's sounds easy to me,

Note my use of the word "a", not "the" - I'm talking about creating a forum, not using an existing one :) Just trying to keep forums general rather than creating new forums for every little idea.

Ohhhh, me read not good, thats comes from a edukation from Hawarden School

Back on subject, the easy way out could be just for the moderators to pick a photo they like each month as i am sure that they would see most of them from the trip reports etc, after all thats how magazines pick the cover every month and then maybe the voters pick the picture of the year

I tend to think democracy might be a better idea for all votes - the poll system works well enough - of course everything can be defeated if someone wants to try hard enough (ie: "the 'n'th user to view the site" competition where the winner only won because he sat and hit refresh for several hours till he got it - lame)

I agree with Steve,
A forum for the competition that all can view.
The competitors post their picks during the month closing at the beginning of the last week.
The last week the poll goes up
The Poll is open to supporters only.
When the competition ends the tread is cleared except the winner. ( If required to save space on the server)
Each month is a new topic. This allows everyone to look back over the previous winners.
There is no mechanical problem so difficult that it cannot be solved by brute strength and ignorance.

Unintentional funny? :P

I don't think bandwidth is a problem any more, so for the purposes of historical reference it would probably be better to keep them...

Na just a senor moment ... As the tread only contains a link to the the photo and not another copy of the photo there is no real space issue

The idea has a certain merit.

How about appointing a completely impartial person as judge and jury????

perhaps the Newsletter Editor, a well know figure of enormous repute and honesty.
One whose probity and good judgement, nonalignment to the common brands, and is respected by at least two other people.

Said newsletter Editor also has a penchant for good whiskey, (read expensive, Johnny Walker Blue Label) same with Sherry, (Harvey's Bristol Cream" please), and Kahlua.

Awsome idea.

Would be great if the person who takes the pic & also the vehicle owner gets a prize.
But

1 Entrants must be a Supporter or ORE Ass Member
2 Pic must of been already posted in a trip report etc.

This will encourage people to take pics of other vehicles & post them.

We all know how hard it is to get pics of your own vehicle in action & generally the only way you can get pics is to get them off here.
We all want more pics on ORE & this will encourage this.

Cheers

It means "to bump the thread". It's an old thread that Jumper wanted to re-activate, so by "bumping" it he put it back to the top of the list and made it visible to others. And from there everyone started talking about it again.

He could have put anything in there, but 'bump' is the common way of doing it.

voting is good I was trying to make it easier for the admin upkeep etc

Trev (I think) touched on a good point, if there is a prize then who gets it, the photo taker or the subject as often they are different.

I may be re-posting someone else's idea and if so, am sorry but

If every picture posted was up for vote would make it to confusing, I can imagine a hell of a lot of photos.

How about if each moderator was to pick 1 photo each, 1 week before the end of the month, these were displayed in a new thread that was locked but assn members and supporters could vote on but not post comments to sway the peoples vote, let the pictures to do the talking

I don't think a prize would be nessecary, perhaps a way is to display the pic, with photographers and drivers name and a small blurb on the main page for the next month (gotta love the bragging rights)

Don't forget the fuss that was made last year over misuse of photos by those who'd want to poke the borax at four wheeling. Knowing that there's a great collection of images depicting 4x4's in mud etc would be valued by some people. I hate to sound PC but if there is a plan to run a photo contest what about putting a scenic flavour to it rather than vehicles chewing up the scenery?
