Idle stepper motor? They get gunked up and can be cleaned easy enough with carb cleaner, they are mounted under the throttle body, I have had to clean mine before I put a catch can on it, it was idling a bit funny and stalling from memory.

Glenn this one idles fast and has on and off for years, now is permanently idling around 2200 RPM. it has been cleaned out a few times but has issues still

if the battery has gone flat or been disconnected mitsi need to relearn idle - just a fyi , dissconnect battery for 5 mins , put it back on and let it idle for 5-10mins with no load i.e air con , steering wheel straight , then drive it might be all it is - worth a try anyway
