From what I can work out your series II rear lights are about 74mm Ø dia?

Hella looks to do 83mmØ at the smallest

$70 from Ebay gets you a "real" LED brake light replacement... 74mm dia
http://r.ebay.com/8KlCC3

$230 from Ebay gets you a set of 8 LED 73mm dia lghts.. 4 amber, 2 red, 2 white. Plug and play with standard fitting/wiring.

Or appx $209 from this .co.uk site, could use drop shipping, might work out cheaper.

Of course within 45 minutes of being in Chch, this happened. :(

Basically the shipping company emptied the battery getting it on/off the boat - which I was ready for - even left a note in the cabin explaining the glow system and how it will start on half a turn if you just let the glow timer do its god damn thing.

Jump started it and the hasp and staple/lock was left undone which I thought was just common sense... screaming around Burwood or somewhere at 80kph or something ridiculous and the bonnet flew up

So that was a genuine 109 V8 ex-Army bonnet, modified to fit the SIIA bulkhead hinges and bare metal refinished

Also the previous owner riveted the soft top frame to the windshield (quite a good idea actually), but it will make removing it an absolute nightmare

And of course I did have a spare windshield about a week ago before the scrap metal trip

So the bonnet catch wasn't working properly.
No Safety catch either.

or was the harsp & staple the safety catch? and you didn't clip it up?

Probably, yeah.

Last time I seen it was when I dropped it at the Wgtn ferry terminal & the hood was securely locked in place.

The monkeys from the shipping company left it undone when they jump started it after caning the starter motor trying to get it started.

They also said that the alternator wasn't working, which I had shop tested by an auto electrician about 2 weeks prior. When my bro picked the LR up he was in a rush and I hadn't explained the latch mechanism to him yet... I didn't envisage that they would be opening the bonnet and poking around in there. He just jumped in it and drove as agreed, I don't blame him.

The bottom line is they shouldn't have needed to open the hood if they had just followed the simple instructions on how to start the engine.

It just shits me, Ralphie, it really does.

Been there done that as well. Safety catch missing and a certain technic to closing bonnet properly. Didn't check it after having work done at auto electrician and sure enough when I got on to open road bonnet blew up. Of course I had already been home no problems, it was only when I went out later.
Now I always make sure there is an adequate safety catch in position.

What sort of latch do you have that holds the bonnet open? Because I had mine fly up once but the catch which holds the bonnet open also stopped it from going all the way over to the windscreen. There was enough force to twist the frame a bit but I just bent it back.

The spare wheel is my safety catch now, its not going anywhere

Loving the late IIA wire grille.

Yeah the locking mechanism wasn't supplied with the Stage One grille panel. But it still has the lever release part. So I took the latch and staple safety arrangement such as you would find on a regular SIII put it where the old lock barrel was (if that makes sense)

So even without the latch/staple the bonnet should have not flown up.. maybe the release lever was stiff and got stuck or something

Spare wheel seems like a good solution

The bummer is that because it has folded when it smashed the windscreen, it has messed up the close line for the bonnet. It no longer looks like this :(
